Working with Global Caching

A document processed by uProduce may include many parts that are common to multiple documents: static text, text from variable text files (text file assets), static images (resources) and dynamic images (graphic assets). When producing print output, PersonalEffect can reuse these common parts the next time the document is processed.

You can perform caching on two levels:

  • uProduce Global Caching: Caches the graphic descriptions of reusable elements in the process of producing print output files.

  • RIP Global Caching: Caches the Ready to Print (RTP) graphics of reusable elements in the process of printing print output files.

Working with uProduce Global Caching

The uProduce Global Caching feature caches the graphic descriptions of reusable elements in the process of producing print output files. This feature is available for PPML, VPS, VIPP and PostScript print output formats.

Enabling uProduce Global Caching

  1. In the uProduce Dashboard, select a document you intend to produce multiple times and click Process.

  2. Go to the Advanced Production Options section and select Use uProduce Global Caching.

  3. Click Submit.

While the job is being processed for the first time, reusable content is identified and saved along with uProduce’s temporary files. The next time you process this document, this content will be reused. In addition, any new content created by the current job will be added to the temporary files.

Clear uProduce Global Caching (temporary files)

The temporary files created by uProduce Global Caching feature take up disk space. It is recommended to clear the temporary files periodically to ensure you have sufficient disk space to complete the production successfully. The following procedure explains how to clear the uProduce Global Cache.

  1. Login to uProduce as an administrator.

  2. Click the Settings button.

    The Settings page is displayed.

  3. On the Temporary Files page, click the Delete button.

Work with the RIP Global Caching

The RIP Global Caching feature caches the Ready-to-Print (RTP) graphics of reusable elements in the process of printing print output files. This feature is available on printers that support Global Caching for PPML and VPS print output formats. uProduce enables this feature by providing global names for reusable elements, thereby allowing the RIP to identify and reuse elements that appeared in previous jobs.

Enable the RIP Global Caching

  1. In the uProduce dashboard, select a document you intend to produce multiple times and click Process.

  2. Go to the Advanced Production Options section and select Use RIP Global Caching.

  3. Click Submit.

While the job is being processed for the first time, each reusable element receives a global name. The association between a reusable element and its name is saved in uProduce. The next time you process this document, each reusable element will receive the same global name. The global names allow the RIP to identify and reuse elements that appeared in previous jobs.

Clear RIP Global Caching

uProduce has a naming generation mechanism that can create an extensive amount of global names. In the rare event that all possible names are used, a warning will be displayed, requiring that you clear the RIP global cache.

  1. Log in to uProduce as an administrator.

  2. Click the Settings button.

  3. From the Server Settings tree, select Global Caching.

  4. Click Clear.

The RIP Global Caching information is cleared from uProduce.

Note: When you clear the RIP Global Caching via uProduce, you must also go to the RIP and clear the Global Elements cache.
